((OOC not sure how you quoted me with out he quotes but might wanna delete that part Dub, a good lesson in how to eidt )) Staryn hissed her displeasure further as she stared back at this foolish man-thing. "Make no mistake my own life is more important to me that some senseless humans. So come at me if you must but know that your death will be for naught." She said as she settled her bulk into a more clear battle stance and prepared to fend off any attack. If her simple tail swipe had done so much damage there was little hope for the foolish man.

((Sorry it's taken me so long to reply, Star. -_-; Getting ready for college is starting to take up a lot of my time. ; )) "My victory shall be my salvation. My death? My redemption. Alas, I am quite certain such a being like yourself would not understand such matters. In the end though, my reasons for killing you and your reasons for defending yourself mean nothing. In the end, all there is...is the battle to the death." His eyes closed tightly as he lifted the large blade high up into the air. His muscles quivered violently and within seconds they began to grow in size. His mouth opened wide as the roar of bloodlust emitted from him. The feelings within such a cry seemed to be pure rage and pain. When his cry ended, pieces of his armor cracked and fell off, his body becoming too big for it. His eyes opened, the bloodshot orbs filled with the insanity within him. The Varangian, and his people, were feared by many because they were berserkers. Warriors who could hold off entire armies by themselves; driven so mad by the demons of war that they would often have to be restrained when the battle was over to keep them from killing their fellow soldiers. This madness was accompanied by a seemingly endless supply of inhuman strength. Such a combination made them formidable foes, as well as the most feared humans (if they were human) to walk the earth and now one of them was standing toe-to-toe with a dragon fighting for a reason unknown. Now that the beast-like part of him had been unleashed, he forgot about pain. It didn't exist anymore, though the injury was clearly seen. With another roar, he charged forward again, leaping into the air as he dived towards the dragon at bullet-like speed, the gigantic sword held in front of him to hopefully wound the dragon with its sharpened point.

((no prob, I know how it goes )) Staryn hissed once more, this time a jet of boiling hot steam poured out of her mouth engulfing the entire area. As she was partially obscured by the steam Staryn drew back further, out of the path of the oncoming man, and waited for him to land, one paw and it's diamond-like claws ready for a swipe at the now mostly armourless berserker.

And land he did, with a loud thud at that, but again pain was no longer a factor. Within seconds, the Varangian was back on his feet and charging towards her, the gigantic blade raised high for yet another attack, but he didn't swing for some odd reason. Instead, he kept running towards her, seemingly oblivious to the claw that would soon swipe at him and his fleshy form.

Staryn swung her left foot at the man-thing, claws fully out and glittering brightly in the diffuse light of the now steamy cave. "You are indeed foolish and have a death wish it seems." She hissed as she struck at him. "A wish I will oblige!" She added in a half roar.

At first, it seemed like his brain didn't register the oncoming attack, but his rage-filled eyes said differently and the actions that followed revealed that he definitely knew it was coming. Instead of trying to defend himself or counterattack, he dropped the blade and came to a complete stop, his arms held wide open as if he welcomed the attack...with an insane smile at that.
"Do it, dragon. End my life and save me from this hell."

"Arghh stupid human!" Staryn roared fully now, as she instantly closed her fist, she couldn't entirely stop her swing. Instead of a body full of claws the man got a draconic fist with about half the power pulled, but it was still plenty harder than her tail swing had been and was bound to do some serious damage.

A frown formed on the Varangian's twisted, crazed face. When the blow hit him, smoke and dirt shot up everywhere as the boom from the impact sounded. When it cleared, the Varangian was standing about ten feet away from where he was originally positioned. It seemed like the blow had no effect, other than moving him slightly, but as he coughed the cracking of his ribs could be heard. As some blood slid out of his mouth, he straightened himself, walking very calmly towards the dragon until he found himself standing right in front of it.
Taking in a deep breath, he stared upward, raising a brow as he stabbed the sword into the ground at his feet. Leaning on it, he allowed himself to wipe some of the blood from his mouth.
"...You could have killed me, you know that, do you not? Why did you not just shred me to bits? Would have saved you a headache or two, you know."

"Why should I help you commit suicide?" Staryn hissed, she was really upset now, "I do not condone that sort of death and I will not assist in it if I can avoid doing so. Not even to save myself a headache." She added as she moved back a bit more, she wasn't about to drop her own defenses just because the man-thing was crazy! "If you wish to suicide go jump off a cliff." She added spitefully.

The Varangian's form shook with laughter as he stared directly into the dragon's eyes.
"If only it were that easy...dragon. Besides, where is the honor in that? There is nothing honorable about throwing yourself off a cliff. Dying in battle...however..."
His fiery red eyes glazed over in a dream-like state as he spoke of it.
"Is the most honorable thing a man can do. Do you not understand that? Or such talk unknown to dragons?"

"Dying in an honorable fight brings honor. Not picking a fight for no reason other than to get yourself killed!" Staryn spat back at the man, he was really grating on her nerves with his attitude and she was half minded to snap his neck in two with another close fisted swing if he continued to imply insults on top of the emotional injury he had done her.

"Not so, dragon. I fight you to slay you or die. Look at it this way...If I win, I will be a hero and get my honor back. If I lose, I will be a hero and get my honor back by fighting a beast no one else would. Either way, I get it my way."
The Varangian's brow perked upward at the dragon's anger, putting more weight on his sword as he titled his head to the side. His wicked smile stayed on his lips as he spoke.
"How peculiar...I did not know dragons, of all things, have feelings. Then again...you speak and seem intelligent enough, so it comes to no surprise..."

"Of course I have feelings, all sentient beings do! But then why would a brainless barbarian know that, especially a mindless berserker!" Staryn spat back her own insult and retreated further into her cave, most of her body was now hidden, surrounded by the rock of the cave. "To pick a fight just because you can is childish. There is no honor in killing one who has offered you nor anyone else any harm." She added venomously.

The Varangian let out a barbaric growl as he slammed the hilt of his blade with his fists.
"You do not understand why I have to do this dragon! If only you knew...you would understand my plight! Maybe even why you must die!"
Taking a deep breath to keep himself from flying off the handle again, the berserker left the blade behind as he stepped a little closer to the dragon.
"It does not matter what you think or feel about this dragon. The fact is, if I kill you for no reason as you say, I will be viewed as a hero. Unfortunately for us both, men fear what is more powerful than them. They do not try to understand the ways of those they fear, and would very much rather see them dead. I know you do understand that."

((Teaching note, the continuous repetition of him saying he has reasons and she would understand if she knew them, but him not being willing to give them gets very old, very quickly. This goes for any case like this. Where a character goes on and on about 'if you only knew' but won't tell. Once, twice, sometimes even thrice, if it's just that kind of charrie, but to continue to drag it out is just annoying to most players. If you are waiting for a prompt from the other player and they don't ask then ooc ask them to if it's really necessary in order for the character to move on. In this case Staryn has already asked and been denied and so she won't ask again. A case of stubborn souls clashing )) Staryn hissed again sending up another gush of steam. "Foolish humans to be so very small minded." She replied and with a lightening fast move in the scant cover offered by her steam she pushed herself out of her rock cover, past the Varagian, and out of her cave. As she hit the clear air of the day she leapt from her ledge and snapped her glittering wings open to catch the air turning her initial plummet into a soaring swoop up and out. She would go to higher ground and if the fool had enough tenacity to follow her then she would toss him from the top of the mountain.
