((OOC make sure to double check your posts Frankie there are seveal missing spaces. Oh and I don't want to assign powers to NPC's if it can be helped so that they can maybe be adopted later))
Brian shook James hand, letting go after only a second. "I saw, you're pretty good with it." He said, ignoring the question of his own power. "You create and control right? That's kind of rare I hear." He added in a self-important tone. "I know just about all there is to know about mutant powers."

"Yeah guess I'm just lucky." James thought for a moment trying to recall all of the people with fire powers he had ever heard of and could only think of one(Human Torch). "I can only light my hands on fire though." James looked around the dining hall at everyone wondering if anyone would be leaving to go be with there family's.

Logan watched Betsy go, a faint hint of regret visible in his eyes. Kathy looked up at him, then grinned.
"Don't tell me you were planning on spiking the punch!" she commented.
Logan shifted, his gaze instantly flicking over towards Betsy. "Do you really have to ask, Kathy?"
Kathy laughed. "You were, weren't you? And Miss Betsy didn't even pick up on that!"
Logan glared at her. "Knock it off! Do you want her to find out?" he hissed.
Kathy shook her head. "Not really. It's just, I would've thought she'd be able to guess, even without her telepathy. I mean, knowing you?"
She grabbed his wrist and started pulling him over towards the Professor. "Come on, I should practice my shapeshifting, and I need someone to supervise me. Please?"
Logan rolled his eyes, but allowed Kathy to pull him along, making sure not to spill his soda. "Alright. Maybe then we can work on your combat skills in human form," he suggested as they came to a halt next to the Professor.
Kathy grinned up at him and released his wrist. "Sounds good to me," she responded before turning her attention to the Professor. She waited to avoid interrupting him.

X-23 grabbed another chocolate chip cookie as she finished off the one she had in her mouth. They had only given her tasteless nutrients at the facility, so these kinds of treats were fairly new to her.
"Hey, Laura," came Mark's voice from nearby. "What are your plans for the break?"
It took X-23 a while to realize that he was talking to her. Being called by the name her mother had given her as she left the facility was almost as new as the cookies.
After taking the time to swallow what she was eating, she replied "I'm not sure. I think I might stay here."
She didn't move toward the group of kids Mark was in, but she didn't really ignore them, either. Social situations-- Another fairly new experience. She wasn't sure she liked them, but she did like the cookies.

"Hello, James," X-23 said, seemingly distracted. For some reason she couldn't place, she was a little more uncomfortable around James.
Not being able to think of anything else to say, X-23 suddenly decided she was thirsty, and decided to head toward the punch bowl.

((LOL oh you don't think there was a reason Besty left Logan and went 'closer' to the punch bowl )) As she watched the ebb and flow of the students Betsy sort of drifted in though remembering some of the more pleasant holidays she had spent in the past. She was drawn from her reverie by the approach of X... err Laura. "Good day Laura, it's a nice party don't you think?" She asked, giving the girl the same sort of lead-ins that she tended to use with the almost equally taciturn Wolverine. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Xavier smiled and shooed off the student he had been speaking with, turning to face Wolverine and Kathy he smiled wider. "And to what do I owe the ambush?" He asked his tone clearly teasing.

Kathy laughed. "Like we even could amubush you, Professor? If we could, we wouldn't have been standing here waiting, that's for sure!"
Logan rolled his eyes as Kathy continued, "Anyway, I was hoping I could practice my shapeshifting. Logan said he'd supervise me, and then we could work on my fighting in human form. Is that okay?"

Xavier smiled indulgently. "If you wish to practice at a time when there is no classes... Well what can one say of the young ones?" He asked Logan rather rhetoically. "Yes you may go practice. Use one of the gyms though, not downstairs." He added with a meaningful look at Logan, knowing him he'd want to use the Danger Room and Kathy was still too new for that.

Logan quirked an eyebrow at Xavier. He knew what that meaningful look meant. Personally, he was sure Kathy would manage fine in the Danger Room, especially on a low setting. However, as much as he disliked admitting it, the Professor's word was pretty much law.
Smiling at the Professor, Kathy turned and ran off. "Thanks, Professor!" she called back over her shoulder. A few moments later, she disappeared through the kitchen door.
Logan sighed and drank down the rest of his soda. "Well, I better go catch up," he muttered, shoving one hand into his pocket. "See ya." He walked through the kitchen, putting his empty cup on a counter and grabbing a couple more chocolates from a floating platter.

It wasn't hard to read Logan, even without his telepathy, but Xavier kept his face calm until after the other man had turned to follow Kathy, then he allowed himself a tiny smile as he turned to another approaching student.

Logan stepped into the first gym he came to, swallowing his chocolate. As soon as he set foot through the door, he was tackled by an enthusiastic Irish Setter. He crashed to the ground, the dog crouching on his chest and licking his face. "What in the..." Then he sniffed a few times, in between swipes of the dog's tongue, before chuckling. "Kathy, get off me."
The dog bounced off him and lowered its elbows to the ground, its rear end with its waving tail in the air, the universal dog gesture for Let's play! Standing, the dog's features melted away until Kathy stood there, laughing. "Took ya long enough to figure out it was me," she teased.
Logan shook his head as he rose to his knees. "C'mere, you!" he mock-growled, lunging. He caught her around the knees and they toppled to the ground, wrestling.
He pinned her and she squirmed, trying to get free as he smirked. Suddenly, she stopped struggling as her body started changing. A moment later, Logan was looking down at a lithe ferret, which chittered up at him and darted out from under him. He snorted and sat down as the ferret changed into Kathy, who grinned. "Kinda hard to pin a shapeshifter, huh?" she inquired.
Logan nodded, then rolled his shoulders. "Okay, time to practice. Go!"
Kathy nodded briefly and immediately shrank. A small red fox crouched there, then darted to one side. As it moved, it grew and its fur shortened and changed color. A small tiger slid to a quick stop and growled softly. Crouching, the tiger became a gazelle, which sprang towards Logan. A small black squirrel landed directly in front of him, chattered, then darted away. A sleek white housecat halted a couple of feet away from Logan, turned, and sat, gazing at him. It meowed, then changed once more. A few moments later, a black wolf sat in the cat's place, pointed its nose to the ceiling, and howled. Logan nodded in approval as Kathy lowered her head.
"That was pretty impressive," he commented.
Kathy's tongue flopped out between her jaws. ---Thanks, Logan.---
((---speech--- <--This is how Kathy communicates while in any animal form. It's not really animal language, and it's not telepathy, like in Animorphs. I'm thinking it's more that she can talk like a human, but it's too high/low for most people to hear. In other words, it's outside the range that humans can detect, although Wolverine and X-23 can hear and understand, alright? So if Kathy wants to say something to anyone else when she's in animal form, Logan or X-23 have to translate, ok?))

X-23 glanced at Betsy. "Um... yes," she said, grabbing a cup and filling it with punch.
She took a sip at it when she noticed Logan leaving with Kathy. No, she told herself. I came here to enjoy the party, not worry about 'Dad.'
Still, she couldn't help looking meaningfully at the door that they'd left through as she finished her punch.

Logan stood and stretched, then settled into a fighter's crouch, his claws still sheathed. "Alright. On to combat. First we'll work a little on your skills as an animal against a human," he said.
Kathy nodded and rose to all four paws. Her vibrant blue eyes glittered as she crouched low to the ground. The two of them circled for a few moments, then Logan called out, "Go!"
They charged. A moment before they would have crashed into each other, Kathy launched herself into the air. Soaring neatly over Logan's head, she touched down briefly on his back, then pushed off again as he lurched. Landing silently on the floor, she instantly spun, as did Logan. They nodded to each other, then came together again.
A few minutes later, Logan spun, trying to dislodge the white housecat from his back.
---I thought you could reach me, Logan,--- Kathy commented in mock amazement, then meowed sharply as one of his hands closed firmly over the scruff of her neck. ---Hey, no fair!---
Wincing slightly as her claws were dragged across his skin, Logan pulled cat-Kathy over his shoulder, then held her out in front of him. "Oh, hush. Now. What if this happened in a real fight? What would you do to get out of this?" he inquired. "Whatever you do, you won't have very long to do it, so make it quick."
Kathy closed her eyes for a moment, then opened them, her long tail twitching. ---Oh, probably something like... this!--- she commented, her shape swiftly changing. A moment later, she was a Great Dane of average size--that is to say, heavy.
Logan's arm shuddered slightly under the weight, then he released her quickly as she twisted, adding to the strain. "Pretty nice..." he commented, shaking out his arm. "Time for human form combat. Ready?"
Kathy nodded and retook her human form. "Ready."
