Aster walked along the walls casually. While things were quiet, to the point of tears, they didn't stop her being alert, the slightest slip in the watches guard could put the whole fortress of Helms Deep into jeopardy. Her long red hair billowed behind her in the light wind, many insisted she wear a helmet but she would not listen, she said she would wear a helmet when arrows seemed like a threat or when she received a wound that proved them right and her wrong, so far they'd had no such luck. "Hey Aster!" yelled one of the other guards as he walked up the opposite way to her. "Hows about a spar later huh? Once we're off duty... you know i haven't had a good thrashing in a while!" The spiritly soldier grinned from ear to ear beneath his helmet, yes most soldiers here did actually wear one! Aster smiled "Of course you havent! I only had you yeild at sword point say... yesterday." She said in a quite a teasing tone. "I do so love looking up at you from the flat of my back!" The male announced before resuming his patrol along the wall. Aster couldn't help but smile... at leats their little sparring matches kept her fresh in this forsaken battle-abandoned hellhole. Oh how she wished she'd been around in the old days when this had been an important stronghold that saw battle more often.

A small white bird sat perched on the long wall, overlooking the land that surrounded the fortress of Helm's Deep. It was fairly well-known that the sorceress Angeline could take this frequent form, and so she did not fear being chased away or used for idle target practice. She groomed her wing absently with her beak.

Aster stopped her patrol to salute the white bird that sat perched on the battlements that she was patrolling. "Ma'am." She added with the salute just to be polite. She then returned to her walk, the light breeze whistling through the locks of her auburn hair. She breathed in this wind, loving the smell of the plains that lay below the sun bathing them in its warmth

The bird twittered in response, fluttering to perch on the soldier-maiden's shoulder. The Light-Bringer was bored, but it was better than being bored alone, she thought.

Caytel stalker down the valley, following the path light-footed. Under her darkened hood, she eyed the people on the wall and her hand itched warily on her blade which hung by her side. Sweeping her cloak to surround her, she bowed her head lower to keep her face in the shadows. As the green clad figure made it to the causeway, he footfalls changed from a crunch to a patter, walking slowly up the stone slope towards the repaired main gate. Upon her back was a long silver and white bow, ornate elven designs etched into it. Very intresting the female elf thought, never have i seen a design of fortress like this, Helm Hammerhand did well.

Aster smiled as the bird landed on her shoulder, and it was looking at the creature that made her spot the stranger. She ran to stand above the gate a called out. "Who goes there!?" She shouted, unable to see more then a siloette in the great shadow of the fortress and the dimming light.

The bird watched, her own attention now drawn to the shadowy figure. She often preffered to watch, rather than be involved in conflict. But of course, if she saw the need, she would not hesitate in using her magic to protect these people.

The elf opened her mouth and spoke clearly, if not quietly: "A Friend". Her voice echoed softly around the valley, her form quite still and unwavering. "I'd have thought the gate would lie open" she continued, her hand emerging from her cloak to pull down her hood. As the light hit her face, she squinted but did not recoil, the filtered rays of the sun reflecting on her pale skin and her silvery blonde hair falling softly around her face.

Aster's eyes squinted to see the now illuminated firgure. "Open the gate!" SHe shouted down to the gatesman who began pushing the winch with all his might. The great gates swang open to admit the visitor. Aster then turned round to witness the strangers entry her eyes no longer doubting that she was at least not meaning them any harm.
