Silvain made his way down the train, stumbling slightly along with everyone else still on their feet as the Hogwarts train suddenly lurched into motion and began to pull away from platform nine-and-and-three-quarters. He caught himself easily, unlike some others, who tripped and fell hard. He ignored them, his rare black pygmy owl hooting derisively from its small cage atop his trunk, which was bewitched to float behind him.
He had to pause, though, to let someone get up in front of him, annoyed by the delay.

Valiente helped said person to their feet, and handed them a book they'd dropped. The younger kid gave him a quick glance, and then hurried past Silvain down the train.
The 5th year's own owl's cage was sitting behind him, for he'd set it down to help the kid up. The rest of his stuff was packed in General Storage.

Silvain ignored the kid and looked at Valiente, surprised that he recognized the teen from his own year. They had shared a lot of classes together in the past years, though they certainly weren't friends. He narrowed his eyes slightly at the Gryffindor, now having to wait for him to collect his bird before he could move on.

Valiente caught Silvan's glare, and smirked. He turned, picked up his bird, and started down the hallway in the same direction as Silvain. He figured since the Slytherin was coming from that way, there weren't any empty compartments.
Only a few doors down he located one, opened the door, and slipped inside.

Silvain sighed quietly as the Gryffindor--Valiente, right? the name seemed familiar--took the compartment he had been making his way toward.
Oh, come on, where are all your friends? Aren't Gryffindors supposed to stick together as one big happy brave family? He debated surreptitiously jinxing the man, just to stir up some early rivalries, but decided against it, figuring that it wasn't worth it.
He made his way past the compartment grudgingly.

Valiente set his owl's cage down, watching as Silvain walked past the compartment he'd just taken, and closed the door as he disappeared.

Silvain paused as he saw a couple of younger kids run past him to a compartment almost directly opposite Valiente's and open it. There were only two kids in this compartment, and Silvain caught one of them by the arm as they all raced out.
"Is your compartment empty?" he asked. The kid was clearly freaked out by him, but nodded. Silvain let him go, and instantly moved to occupy it. He gave a self-satisfied smile as he set his pygmy owl down and shoved his trunk up into an overhead luggage compartment.

Valiente propped his feet up on the opposite chair. He'd chosen an empty compartment because for some reason, he just wanted to be alone, away from the excitement of his friends. The train ride, he hoped, would go by quickly.

Silvain had stolen an empty compartment to let his owl out. NightWing had always disliked his cage, anyway. The creature spread its wings and glided over to perch on the back of the seat opposite Silvain. The teen slipped his wand out of its case at his belt, too long to hide in a pocket or part of a robe, and flicked open his trunk with it, removing a packet of owl treats with a simple summoning spell. He tossed one to the pygmy, and it caught it with a flutter, then hooted at him.

Valiente slumped a bit in his seat, glancing once more at the sleeping bird beside him. He watched the metal cage rattle slightly as the train shook it, and wondered when the trolly would be coming; he was hungry.

Silvain took out another treat, and tapped it with his wand. He transfigured it into a tiny live mouse, and looked up at NightWing. The owl was staring expectantly at it. Almost carelessly, he tossed it by its tail into the air, and the bird was after it like lightning, gliding across the compartment and landing by its owner's head, on the back of the seat.
Silvain hear a gasp from outside, and turned to see a few third-year Hufflepuffs go white as they watched what was happening from the corridor. He scowled, and pointed his wand tip at them. They bolted reflexively, even though he had no intention of harming them.
Next time, you won't be so lucky. He held up his arm, and the owl walked onto it. He lowered his hand to his lap, then stroked the pygmy. It hooted softly as it looked up at him, and nipped playfully at his fingers.

Valiente drummed his fingers back and forth across the seat of his compartment. He looked up as someone knocked on the door, and slid it open. It was a younger student, a 4th year by Valiente's guess, who was looking for a place to sit.
"Sorry, reserved." Valiente shrugged, nodding at his feet which were propped up, covering the opposite seat. "Try a few doors down. I think there's one with only one person in it." He smiled. He was pretty sure Silvain hadn't gone too far.

Silvain put toe owl treats away, much to his pets dismay, and debated whether to put his robes on now or not. NightWing leapt off his arm and flapped over to the other seat, perching on it and looking up at him with its big, owl-y eyes. It tilted its head as it watched him stand and rummage manually through his trunk overhead.

There was a knock at Silvain's door.
Valiente snickered after the kid left, and slid the door closed. He wasn't the type to pull tricks, really, but there was something about that Slytherin that had really bothered him.
